Meet Our Team

Mike Owen, DVM

Dr. Mike Owen is a native Marylander and is thrilled to have called Frederick County his home for many years.  His love for animals, passion for helping people, and strong work ethic made veterinary medicine a natural fit.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland and graduated magna cum laude from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he was inducted into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. After graduation, Dr. Owen completed an Internal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. He has a special interest in surgery and has worked as a Chief of Staff and a Department Head of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Owen has 3 rescued pets: Frankie, an orange tabby, Dr. Kevin, a brown tabby and a special French Bulldog, Brutus. Outside of work, Dr. Owen enjoys spending time with his family, finding new hiking spots, and catching a baseball game, when possible.

Thomas Bauk, DVM

Dr. Bauk is a lifelong resident of Maryland. Dr. Bauk graduated with honors from the University of Maryland with a degree in Animal Science. He then completed his veterinary degree with high honors in 1986 from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He was a member of the Phi Zeta National Honor Society and received outstanding achievement for Equine Medicine and Surgery. While completing his graduate degree he was employed in the United States Public Health Service working at the National Institute of Health Animal Center. Upon graduation Dr. Bauk worked for Dr. Robert D. Fulton at Middletown Veterinary Clinic until taking over in 1990 and passing the practice onto Dr. Owen in 2020.​

The Middletown Valley has been a great place to serve and a great place for Tom, wife Linda and daughters Nicole and Kristen to grow as a family. He is pictured here with Captain Morgan, a rescue. 

Dr. Bauk is a member of the AVMA and MVMA and has served as the Vice President of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.

Portia Hunt, DVM

Dr. Portia Hunt is an Alabama native and graduated with Honors from the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. Dr. Hunt has had experience with pets since a teenager volunteering in animal shelters and working in pet stores and now thoroughly enjoys practicing veterinary medicine. She is seeing dogs and cats only at this time, but will expand her talents to pocket pets in the near future.

When not in exam rooms or the surgical suite, Dr. Hunt partakes in her personal activities including roller skating, visiting museums, trying new restaurants, reading, and spending time with her cat, Felix.

Shelby, Office Manager & Lead Client Service Representative

Shelby has been the smile of Middletown Vet Clinic for over 4 years! She has 7+ years experience in veterinary medicine, and wouldn't change her career for the world! She loves being able to bond with all of the clients as well as their pets! Shelby has a horse named Cooper, 2 dogs, Rose and Myrtle, as well as 2 cats, Chip and Charlie! 

Kelly, Vet Tech/Client Service Representative

Kelly wears many hats at our practice from occasionally filling in as a client service representative to assisting the doctors as a vet tech.  She claims to be a cat person, enjoys fishing, and loves riding 4-wheelers!

Erica, Vet Tech/Client Service Representative

Erica came to MVC with kennel tech experience. She has a great work ethic and enjoys filling in when and where we need her to. When not at work, Erica spends time with her son and pups!

Alexis, Vet Tech/Client Service Representative

Alexis started with MVC in 2024, she started with no vet experience and has blossomed into a wonderful Technician and Client Service Representative! Alexis loves her black lab, Willie! Alexis loves helping all the animals that come into our office!

Jazmine, Client Service Representative

Jaz has been with MVC for a little over a year now as a CSR! Her favorite part about her position is having part in helping all the animals! Jaz has 2 dogs, Simba and Chico, who are her babies! Jaz is also currently in school to become a veterinarian!

Izzy, Vet Tech

Izzy joined MVC in May 2024 after working the kennel at another veterinary hospital. As a technician, she loves working with all cats, spicy and sweet, and learning more advanced medical techniques. She has two lovely kitties of her own, Oliver and Sami, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Creative Writing at Hood College.

Cassandra, Vet Tech

Cassandra started with MVC early 2024! She came with previous technician experience and is putting it to great use! She also loves spending time with her two cats, Squirrel and Coraline. Cassandra is excited to continue her journey with MVC!
